Ski & Snowboard Safaris - Frequently Asked Questions
For more general information, please see our Travel Tips section.
Do we need to ski as a group with the guide?
No, although upon arrival at every ski area for the first time, our guide will provide a brief orientation. You are free to ski with or without the guide as you please. The guide will always be reachable by radio.
What level of skiing or riding should I have?
For all of our guided safaris we recommend an advanced level of skiing or riding in order to take full advantage. You should be skiing any type of black run easily and enjoy skiing off-piste. For heli-ski and cat-ski safaris we recommend some experience skiing or riding powder. If in doubt, please contact us!
What type of lodging is included?
Our safaris include lodging at superior hotels and mountain-style lodges, single & double rooms with private bath, and breakfasts included.
What to bring?
Due to limited space in the tour vehicles, each participant can bring one large suitcase or backpack/duffel bag, 1 small backpack for daily use, and ski/snowboard material*. In addition to your ski/snowboard gear, we suggest:
- Winter clothing & boots
- Helmet
- Camera/video
- Bathing suit & small towel
- Music for the road (tour vans have CD/mp3/iPod)
- Bank card (with "Plus"), major credit card
- Valid passport (& visa if required)
- Avalanche gear (transeiver, shovel & probe) - may be rented if required
*1 pair of skis & poles or 1 snowboard, 1 pair of ski/snowboard boots. If the tour is not full, it may be possible to bring more gear. Ask us!
If I am travelling alone, what options do I have?
We offer pricing for single and double accommodation. We always try to match single guests up if possible and if they so desire. Please note that for the heli-ski and cat-ski lodges, you do not pay extra as a single as they will match you up as need be. If you specifically want a single room, there is an extra cost.
What if we are a group of three?
In some cases we can offer a special rate based on triple accommodation, however, in almost all our hotels & lodges, this would entail sharing two double beds between three people.
What time do I need to arrive in Calgary on the first day?
The best time to arrive is between noon and 6 pm. Most flights from Europe arrive during this interval.
Can I add an additional nights before or after?
We are more than happy to arrange additional nights in Calgary or Banff before or after the safari. Some also choose to add-on a stay in Vancouver on the coast afterwards.
Is there a minimum age requirement for participants?
We recommend participants be at least 18 yrs old. In some cases, we will allow participants as young as 16 yrs to join the group, as long as they have the adequate skiiing/riding ability and are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Do I have to sign a waiver?
Yes, at the beginning of the safari. Also the heli-ski and cat-ski operators will require their own waivers to be signed.
