Electricity
In Canada and the US, all outlets carry a voltage of 120 V with an alternating current of 60Hz. The outlets and plugs are as follows (almost always with a "ground", but sometimes without):

For visitors from other countries, a simple plug adaptor will allow you to use small appliances, e.g. electric razors, travel irons etc. without much hassle. Other appliances, however, will require a step-down transformer as well, including some hairdryers, portable DVD players, and battery chargers. It depends on the level of voltage required or allowed as indicated on the device. Some devices are designed to accept both voltages (220 V or 120V) and in that case, only a plug adaptor would be required, e.g. most laptop computers. Check the labels on your device carefully.
Cars and RVs almost all come with a "lighter-type" 12 V outlet which can be very handy for charging batteries, phones etc, while driving, just don't forget the proper charger.
