Aurora borealis

The sky lights up with other-worldly colors: green, white, red, pink, purple and blue, and they shimmer and dance across the sky. In Alaska you can see the northern lights often, once the skies are dark enough in the fall, and continuing through spring. In fact, the area of interior Alaska, from Denali, north to Fairbanks and Fort Yukon, is perhaps the best place on earth to watch the aurora. There are special tours and lodging options that allow guests to spend the night in locations away from city lights and with great chances to see the aurora.
